Your Guide to Volunteering Around Erie

Here at Marsha Marsh Real Estate, we believe that Erie is more than just a place—it’s home. Giving back to your community is a fantastic way to show how much you care, and we have a few organizations that we think really make a difference in this community. Ready to start volunteering around Erie? Here are a few great places that can always use help!

Lucy’s First Step

People volunteering

Lucy’s First Step is a small charity located in the heart of Erie, and they’re giving back to our community in a unique way. Founders Lesley and Pete Mitchell established the organization in memory of their daughter, who tragically passed away just after she was born.

The goal of Lucy’s First Step is to raise money for parents searching for community support after the loss of a child. All of their proceeds go to help financially disadvantaged families receive the grief counseling they need. Feel free to reach out and see how you can volunteer at their year-round Erie events.

The Erie City Mission

The Erie City Mission is one of our community’s most influential charities, and it’s easy to get involved! The organization’s goal is to help all members of the community through ministry programs, soup kitchens, and donations. If you’re looking to make a broad impact on Erie’s citizens, this is the spot for you.

Grace House, a transitional facility for at-risk women, is one of their most popular ministries. Urban University, an after-school program for Wayne and Pfeiffer-Burleigh students, is also accepting new volunteers. Want to get involved? Just reach out to them via phone or email to see how you can help!

Erie Humane Society

Dog in Humane Society

All animal lovers feel right at home at the Erie Humane Society! This no-kill shelter helps rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome pets of all shapes and sizes, and they’re always in need of volunteers. Who knows—you might even find a new furry friend to bring home with you, too.

If you’d prefer a more hands-on experience, you can sign up for their in-home foster program or help in the shelter’s kennels. However, they also host a variety of events throughout the year, such as the Trivia Bowl and Woofstock.

Veteran’s Miracle Center

Veteran volunteering

Ready to make a difference in a veteran’s life? The Veteran Miracle Center provides clothing, hygiene products, and housewares to in-need servicemen and women. There are plenty of ways to help out, and sometimes just listening to a veteran’s story can make all the difference.

Currently, drop-in volunteer hours are 9:00am to 2:00pm, Monday through Friday. Special nights are also available for groups looking to leave a lasting impact. If you don’t have the time to volunteer, the VMC also accepts donations via cash or check.
